There are a few things that as an adult, you know you have to do every day including brushing your teeth, getting out of your pajamas (on a good day), and washing your face. And if you have acne, it’s especially important to do the latter, or is it? This article will discuss whether or not you are making your acne worse by cleaning your face too much. Read on to learn more.
The Good News
Having a clean face is one of the best ways to combat oil that causes acne. By balancing out the oil on your skin, you can work to get rid of your acne and have a cleaner complexion. If you workout a lot, make sure that you are washing your face with either a facial towelette (similar to baby wipes) or a gentle foaming cleanser afterward— the sooner you get the dirt, oil, and sweat off of your face, the less likely you are to break out.
The Bad News
The downside of washing your face is that you can wash it too much. Although acne products containing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can get rid of harmful bacteria and oil, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. By stripping your skin of too many oils, some acne products can cause your skin to kick into overdrive and produce more and more oil to protect it from drying out– leaving you with more acne.
