Pop! How to Properly Pop that Pimple
- Posted on: Jul 15 2017
If you are like most people, you probably pick at your face and pimples as soon as you see one. And although you think you may not be causing your skin any harm, you can cause scarring or more breakouts if you aren’t careful. You have two options when it comes to getting rid of your pimples without causing further harm to your skin: you can either leave it alone entirely, or you can use the extraction tips outlined below. Read on to learn more.
Step 1: Use An Extractor
If you can, purchase a pimple extractor from a store like Target, a beauty supply store, or even Amazon.com.
Step 2: Sanitize
To help reduce any further spread of bacteria, make sure to sanitize your extractor and your skin by using rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton pad or round.
Step 3: Apply Pressure
Using the hook-like end of your extractor, slowly apply pressure near the end of your pimple and then slide it towards the center. As you are doing this motion, the whitehead will come off, and pus should start to come out.
Step 4: Sanitize Again
One of the biggest problems that people run into when extracting a pimple is that they forget to sanitize their skin after they pop it— which can cause the bacteria to spread across their skin and cause further breakouts. Make sure to disinfect your popped pimple and the skin around it with some rubbing alcohol and a cotton pad.
Step 5: Dry it Out
Now that the wound (your pimple) is open, it’s important for you to dry it out from the inside. To do this, use an acne medication that contains an ingredient like either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Apply a small amount of this to your pimple and let it sit on there— it may burn at first, but then it will subside.
If you can’t resist the urge to pop your pimple, do it the correct way and use the steps listed above. To learn more about acne treatment, contact Cara Mia Medical Day Spa today and schedule an appointment!
