Neurotoxins: Not Your Normal Toxins
- Posted on: Sep 15 2017
When you hear the term “neurotoxins,” the last thing you likely think is, “Great! Let’s inject some into my face.” However, unlike toxins that are harmful to your body, neurotoxins are, surprisingly, one of the most popular treatments that we offer here at Cara Mia Medical Day Spa. So, what are these unique toxins and how can they benefit you and your skin? Read on to learn more.
What Are Neurotoxins?
You may be surprised to learn that neurotoxins are actually in the form of Botox and Dysport— two injectables that are popular at treating fine lines and wrinkles across the face and forehead. Derived from the botulinum toxin A, neurotoxins like Botox and Dysport don’t fill in your fine lines and wrinkles, but they relax the facial muscles which in turn, soften any imperfections. And, because of botulinum toxin A, is a purified toxin, you won’t have to worry about any crazy, adverse side effects. If, however, you suffer from an allergic reaction after your injections, make sure to contact our office immediately so that we can take care of it.
Why Are They Popular?
Neurotoxins are consistently popular amongst our patients year after year because they are not only effective, but they also give patients a non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures like facelifts. Lasting around 3-6 months on average, Botox and Dysport give you the flexibility to see great results without having to worry about the surgical repercussions of going under the knife.
The word “toxin” comes with a bag full of negative connotations, but when it comes to neurotoxins, there’s nothing negative about them. If you have started to notice that you are developing fine lines and wrinkles across your forehead and around your eyes, you may want to consider Botox or Dysport.
