The Benefits of Integrative Medicine
- Posted on: Feb 15 2018
You have a cut, so you put a band-aid on it. You have acne, so you use a spot treatment. You have a headache, so you take some ibuprofen. And although it’s easy to treat some things at the surface level, there are other things— like skin conditions— that need a little more tender love and care with a practice called integrative medicine.
What Is Integrative Medicine?
The whole premise of integrative medicine is that it treats the whole person and not just the skin disease or condition. For instance, for a patient who has acne, we can look to treat it with diet (including dietary supplements and changes), topical ointments, and even alleviating stress causing ailments. By treating all aspects of the condition, patients may receive not only better results, but they may also receive results that are longer lasting as well.
There are many different types of integrative management options for a variety of dermatologic conditions including psoriasis, rosacea, acne, hair loss, and dermatitis.
How Does Integrative Medicine Work?
During your initial consultation with our Dermatology Associates of Colorado office, we will perform a physical evaluation of your skin to give you a proper diagnosis. Once you have been diagnosed, we will then go over your daily routine including your lifestyle. From there, we will help to create a plan that integrates all types of changes into your life to help clear up your skin care problem.
Integrative medicine isn’t used to treat every skin care condition or every patient for that matter, but it can be very helpful for specific patients.
Are you ready to learn more about integrative medicine and whether or not it’s right for you and your skin? Schedule your consultation at one of our offices today!
