The Importance of a Good Skin Care Regimen

A bar of soap and a cheap moisturizer may have gotten you through your teens and early twenties, but a good skin care regimen requires much more than that. Just as it is important to take proper care of your body by eating right and getting ample exercise, it’s equally important for you to take good care of your skin.

Read on to learn more about what to include in your daily skin care regimen and why it’s important.

  • Cleanser. Chuck that bar of soap in the trash can and purchase a skin cleanser for your skin type instead. A gentle cleanser when used both morning and night will help to rid your skin of oils, dirt, and impurities that can cause things like acne and wrinkles. As mentioned above, however, it’s important to choose a cleanser for your skin type. For instance, if you have oily skin, look for a cleanser that has acne fighting properties in order to help stabilize the oil on your face.
  • Toner. Toners don’t have to be used both morning and night but should at least be used once a day. Usually filled with an alcohol based component, toners are can rid your skin of additional impurities that may not have been washed away during the cleansing process. Simply dab a small amount of toner on a cotton pad and rub it around your face, avoiding your eyes and focusing on your t-zone.
  • Moisturizer. Depending on your age and skin concerns, you may want to have both a day cream and a night cream. Day creams are typically equipped with moisturizing ingredients and a sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun all day long. Whereas night creams are typically equipped with anti-aging components like retinol in order to help fight off age while you sleep.

Having a good skincare regimen in place doesn’t require hundreds of skincare products. In fact, it really just requires the above 3-4. To learn more about the importance of skincare or to schedule an appointment at our day spa, contact our office today.
