The Skinny On Your Skin

You were born with it, you have it, and you likely want it to look as young as possible, but there are many things that you likely don’t know about your skin. Luckily, here at Cara Mia Medical Day Spa, we want all of our patients to know as much as possible about their skin so that they can know what kinds of treatments are best. From the top layer to the bottom, this article will give you the skinny on your most beloved organ: your skin. Read on to learn more.

Subcutaneous Tissue

The bottom layer of your skin is called the subcutaneous tissue. This portion of the skin is where your collagen and elastin are stored— giving you a smoother and more youthful looking complexion. As you age, your skin starts to lose both the collagen and elastin, resulting in you having more fine lines and wrinkles. Luckily, at Cara Mia Medical Day Spa, we can treat your subcutaneous tissue with things like Botox, fillers, and even collagen injections.

The Dermis

As the middle layer of the skin, your dermis is where your hair follicles and sweat glands are. If you have scars, some fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damage, we can use treatments like IPL and chemical peels to target the dermis.

The Epidermis

The top layer of your skin is the portion of your skin that you see the most of and that you should be protecting on a daily basis. Because your epidermis is the top part of your skin, we can treat it using topical skin care products and facials. To make sure that you are taking the best care of your epidermis, wear a sunscreen every day.

Your skin is made up of three different layers— all of which can be treated by Cara Mia Medical Day Spa in unique ways. If you would like to learn more about how you can take better care of your skin or schedule a consultation with our office, contact Cara Mia Medical Day Spa today!
