At Cara Mia Medical Day Spa in Parker, Meridian, Aurora, and Castle Rock, we specialize in helping patients reduce unwanted cellulite with Velashape. Cellulite is a kind of fat tissue in the subcutaneous layer of the skin that contains constricting bands of connective tissue. This connective tissue, which varies in thickness and is laced with fat cells, is held in place by a network of fibers that protects our body, cushioning our muscles and organs. It is also surrounded by a liquid that both nourishes it and provides it with an effective waste system. When all is working well in the system, waste products are removed from the body and smooth curves result; when fats, fluids and toxins are trapped deep in the skin (below the epidural layer), the connective tissue thickens and hardens, giving a dimpling effect. As we mature, the layer of skin thins, resulting in the rippled appearance of cellulite.
WHAT IS VELASHAPE?
Velashape is the first FDA cleared device for circumferential and cellulite reduction. It has been specifically shown to achieve temporary reduction of thigh circumferences and the appearance of cellulite. It utilizes a unique multimodal approach with vacuum suction, mechanical rollers, and heating through infrared light and bipolar radiofrequency energy. Reduction in cellulite and contouring of lipodystrophies (unwanted lumps, bumps, and bulges) and circumference are the treatment goals for Velashape.
HOW DOES VELASHAPE WORK?
The Velashape combines heat (infrared and radio frequency) energy with vacuum suctions and mechanical rollers to break up the superficial fat layer that contributes to cellulite. The heat increases the metabolism of the fatty layer, which causes the fat cells to shrink in size. The mechanical rollers and vacuum suction increase circulation to the area which aids in creating a smoother surface appearance.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS AND HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Many patients will begin to see results after the first or second treatment. However, it is recommended to do three treatments spaced two weeks apart to achieve optimum results. After the series of three treatments is complete, it is recommended to do a treatment once every three months for continued results. Some patients are so encouraged by the first series; they will elect to continue once every two to four weeks for an additional three treatments.
The results of Velashape can be long-lasting as long as a healthy weight and lifestyle are maintained. Cara Mia Medical Day Spa offers our patients a reduced price for maintenance treatments.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?
The Velashape treatments are often described as a deep tissue massage, but we have found patients usually find the first treatment slightly uncomfortable due to the unique manipulation of the tissue. After the initial treatment, people are more familiar with the “feeling” and find it comfortable. There will be some mild redness of the skin and the areas will feel warm immediately after the treatment. We recommend wearing a fitted garment on the area to keep the tissue warmer for a longer period of time. Normal activities may be resumed the same day.
WHO IS THE IDEAL PATIENT FOR THE PROCEDURE?
Velashape is ideal for those looking to improve the appearance of cellulite in the abdomen, thighs, hips, and buttocks. Body contouring via circumferential reduction of unwanted fat bulges is going to be most dramatic in those patients who are compliant with a healthy lifestyle.
WHAT TO EXPECT IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR VELASHAPE PROCEDURE?
The treated area may appear flushed or pink from the heat for a short while and may feel warm for several hours after treatment. One can resume normal activities immediately. There may also be some mild soreness and bruise.
WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR VELASHAPE?
Velashape can be used on any person if cellulite is present and if there are realistic expectations for circumferential reduction. It is safe and effective for all skin colors and there are no long-term health hazards from the light of RF energy.
